Terry and Pete Born, along with their friends, Kathy and Carol, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The conditions were cloudy and overcast with easterly winds, which are my favorite conditions for Tuna fishing.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started the day trolling the reef in 175 ft. of water. Early on, the action was good as we went from shallow water to deeper water, trolling feathers, sea witch, Ballyhoo and a spoon. The first few bites we got trolling were Bonitos and Mahi Mahi's. It did not take long before the rod bent over, zipping out drag - a nice Black Fin Tuna was caught. So, for the first half of the trip we caught two Tunas, one Mahi, a few Bonitos and a Kingfish, all in 100 out to 300 ft. of water, which is anywhere from 2 to 2.5 miles off the beach.

I decided to do some kite fishing because we had steady wind and a dozen live Goggle Eyes for bait. We went out to 180 ft. of water and put up two kites with 2 live Goggle Eyes from each kite. Red hot Tuna action began. We had an explosion on the baits, and were hooked up with 15 to 20 pound Tunas for the remainder of the trip. Everyone had a super time hauling in their Tunas – some were smaller than others but they will still cook on the grill very nicely.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
