Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Steve Raabe and friends from Canada chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing here in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We had winds out of the east at 15 mph, seas running 4-5 ft. with blue waters into 60 ft. of water.

We stopped on the way out to purchase some live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait in the port of Fort Lauderdale. Fifteen minutes later lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, which is 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.

We started off trolling with four surface baits and two deep #8 plainers. We trolled the reef, ranging from 80 ft. out to 150 ft. of water, catching a couple of Bonitos, Kingfish and Barracudas. Now Captain Kopper decided to do some kite fishing! We put two kites out with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. Forty-five minutes into kite fishing, a large water explosion on the left long bait occurred, as the line screamed off the TLD 25 at an extreme high rate of speed. The rod tip bounced up and down – it was a good indication that it was the fastest fish in the ocean – a Wahoo, which are clocked at 64 mph. Thirty-five minutes later the purple-blue stripped torpedo appeared at the side of the boat, as Ian, our mate, gaffed the large Wahoo while the razor sharp teeth snapped back and forth – a very dangerous fish, especially one this size weighing in at 76 lbs. Our angler, Steve, had a large smile on his face and did a great angling job.

With plenty of food for tonight's dinner, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316, as the anglers retired to the a/c salon.
