Deep Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in Fort Lauderdale Happy Day Today
Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Mike Milne and his wife, Mary, along with friends, Joan and Bob, all from Michigan, after relaxing for a week on a cruise ship, decided to end their vacation with a fishing trip, so they chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some big game deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. Winds were out of the east at 10 mph, seas running 3-4 ft, blue skies with temperatures in the mid 80's.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft of water at the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale, 1.8 miles off shore. We started off trolling with two #8 plainers, one with a 3 1/2 blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos. I trolled the reefs ranging in depths of water from 80 to 140 ft of water catching a couple of Bonitos and some short Kingfish. In the past few days, the Kingfish being caught have been shorts, so we have been releasing them.

We headed to the east of Fort Lauderdale in search of some Mahi Mahi. I found some debris floating in 480 ft of water, and the anglers caught four under-sized Mah Mahi's, which we released. We kept trolling the debris line and caught two nice-size Mahi Mahi's, one a Bull Mahi Mahi weighing in at 12 lbs.

It was time to head back so the anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
