Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
The windy and wet weather that has been making it's way down here to the formerly sunny south has finally reached us. Canceled our trip today and we will be canceling our trip tomorrow as it is blowing a small gale here and the seas are really up today and we also extra luckily have rain in the mix too. Far from perfect and too bad as the Deep Sea Fishing was very good coming into this frontal system.
Yesterday we had a load of fish as we caught 14 King Mackerel, Vermillion Snappers, three large Greater Amberjacks from 40 to 60 pounds, a Red Grouper, one out of two Sailfish, large Bonitos, a couple of Blackfin Tunas and a single Mahi-Mahi. That was a lot of fun for us and our charters as the fishing has been good for three days coming off of a tough bite early week.
All the Kingfish came were inside on the reefs from 90 to 120 feet of water. Every one on the deeper planer rod lines with Bonito strip and Seawitch heads made by local lure maker Stan Bruer We caught the Jacks on wrecks in 210 and 265 feet of water using live "Bullett Bonito" for bait. The Vermillion Snappers came off of structure in 300 to 330 feet of water and they were good sized fish eating cut fresh Bonito we used for bait. The Red Grouper ate Bonito off of a wreck in 85 feet of water. The Sailfish, Blackfin Tunas and common Bonitos all took Bonito strips fished on the surface lines. That lone Mahi-Mahi took a rigged BallyHoo off the surface.
With all this wind we will see what the ocean has to offer once this front finishes hammering us. We expect a slight increase in the Sailfish action and possibly a good jump up in the Mahi-Mahi action near shore out front but we will remain at the dock for two more days and then we'll see what Mother Nature has blown up on our doorstep. Hopefully some continued good fishing. Enjoying our day off and Happy Birthday to Capt. Matt Fann today. 35 today!!! I remember 35, I think.
