Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Report
Charter Boat Happy Day Today – Top Shot Sportfishing Charters
Another action-packed stretch of Fort Lauderdale fishing for the crew aboard the Happy Day Today! Our recent charter fishing trips brought anglers from all over the country to experience South Florida deep sea fishing, and the Sailfish bite did not disappoint.
Josh from Illinois – Target: Sailfish 🎣
Josh booked a deep sea fishing charter out of Fort Lauderdale with one goal in mind — Sailfish. The morning started with very light winds, which made kite fishing difficult (our favorite technique for targeting Sails). We stayed patient, and around noon the breeze picked up to 9–10 mph. Kites went up, live baits were set, and it didn't take long.
An aggressive Sailfish came charging in, lit up and attacking the bait. Fish on! Josh got the full show — screaming drag, high jumps, and an unforgettable battle. After a hard fight, Kyle brought the Sail alongside for a quick photo before releasing it safely. The fish swam away strong and healthy — exactly how we like it.
Chris & Son from Kansas City – First Sailfish!
Ideal trolling conditions greeted us on this Fort Lauderdale fishing charter — light north current, easterly breeze, and crystal-clear blue water. We marked plenty of bait and saw flying fish scattering, always a good sign.
The best bite of the day came early when Chris's son hooked and landed his very first Sailfish off the long rigger bait. An incredible moment! Later, while slow trolling planner lines over productive reef structure, we hooked up again — this time Chris reeled in a beautiful Mutton Snapper. A great mix of offshore trolling and structure fishing made for an awesome day of charter fishing.
Kent & Son from Georgia – Repeat Action
Repeat clients Kent and his son joined us for an afternoon deep sea fishing trip. Conditions were perfect for kite fishing, and we wasted no time getting the spread out.
A Sailfish popped up quickly and we were hooked up. Kent's son handled the fight like a pro, and after a quick photo and clean release, the Sail swam off strong. Always great seeing returning families enjoy the excitement of Fort Lauderdale fishing.
Billy & Friends from Tampa – Variety Day
This deep sea fishing charter started on a wreck in Fort Lauderdale with live bait. After positioning over the structure, we hooked into a big 55" Barracuda. Photo and release.
We then pushed offshore to 800 feet where a strong edge had formed. Both deep planner lines got crushed — double header! Billy and his crew reeled in two solid Wahoo. That's the kind of offshore action that makes South Florida charter fishing so exciting.
Ben from Texas – Bullet Bonita & Big Wahoo
Ben joined us for an afternoon trip in pretty blue water with light north current. We started by catching live Bullet Bonita and slow-dragging them over productive reef and wreck areas.
When the bait started swimming nervously, we knew something big was nearby. Then BOOM — a powerful Wahoo exploded on the bait. After a hard fight and a clean gaff shot by Kyle, we had a beautiful Wahoo in the boat. Classic Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing at its best.
Adam & Family from South Dakota – 3 for 3 on Sailfish
We kicked off this morning charter fishing trip with live bait kite fishing in 130–160 feet of water off a Fort Lauderdale reef. The Sailfish were ready.
We went 3 for 3 on Sails, each fish putting on an aerial display and strong fight. All were brought boatside for quick photos and released in great condition. It was nonstop action and an unforgettable family fishing experience.
From targeting trophy Sailfish to battling Wahoo offshore and working the wrecks for Snapper and Barracuda, it's been an incredible run of deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale aboard the Happy Day Today.
