Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week, while deep sea fishing in Ft. Lauderdale, we caught a variety of fish – Black Fin Tuna, King Mackerel, Bonita, Barracuda and Mahi Mahi. The depth of water ranged from 90 ft., which is a little inside of the third reef, to a depth of 350 ft. All the fish were hooked up on the deep rods with two #8 plainers – the long plainer was let out 350 ft; the short plainer was out 150 ft. Both plainers had seawitches and bonita strips – one was pink and the other was blue and white with a 75 ft. trace (from the plainer to the seawitch). The Mahi Mahi's were hooked up on the surface with Ballyhoo bait. With the Northeast winds we had this week from passing Hurricane Earl, blue water was inside the third reef in Ft. Lauderdale. Once there is a low pressure and/or a high pressure, we have good bites. The baits have been plentiful, and there is a good current, which means good fishing.
One of our clients this week, Ryan Till and his buddies, chartered the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak to go on a deep sea fishing charter in Ft. Lauderdale. The four guys were here from Texas for a bachelor party and decided to have a morning of fishing on the Happy Day Today. Everyone was thrilled by their catch, especially Ryan who caught a 52 inch "Saber tooth" Barracuda. From there they went to their bachelor party to drink, eat and be merry in sunny South Florida.

We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
