Deep Sea Fishing Ft.Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt.Zsak

Capt. David Zsak
August 16, 2010
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

A beautiful day again today in Ft. Lauderdale to go deep sea fishing. Wind was out of the southeast, about 12 miles per hour. There was a 25% chance of rain but you would never have believed it since the weather was gorgeous. In the late afternoon, the rains came in over the Everglades.

We departed at 7:45 am from Bahia Mar, Fort. Lauderdale dock on the Happy Day Today for deep sea fishing with Mr. Roger Smith and family from Ohio (three children – a girl and two boys, his wife and mother-in-law that resides in Ft. Lauderdale). Captain Zsak decided to venture off shore and go deep sea fishing to a depth of 500-800 ft to catch Mahi Mahi's and Wahoo's.

A half hour into the trip, we ran across a floating piece of wood that held a bull and a cow Mahi Mahi. After a 20 minute battle, that put a huge smile on the seven year old boy's face, he caught the bull Mahi Mahi, and went to rest his tired arms in the a/c cabin.

From there we headed back to shallow water (120-180 ft.) and put out two #8 plainers on spider line. From the short plainer, we had a 75 ft. trace that led to the white and blue seawitch and a bonita strip. From the long plainer, we also had a 75 ft. trace that led to a 3 ½" blue reflector drome spoon. We worked back and forth (east/west) from 120 ft. to 180 ft. south of Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale. Back in 1981, a 42 ft. Haitian boat sank in 135 ft. of water that to this day continues to hold bait fish, and in return the predators are always around feeding on them. This spot produced a good bag full of Kings and Bonitas – the Kings were from 6-12 lbs and the Bonitas were from 6-8 lbs. One of the daughters caught her first fish, a King weighing 12 lbs. There was excitement in the cockpit from the delighted screams of the girl and the entire family, along with our mate, Mitch, who gaffed the fish. Also, this same wreck is home to different species of Sharks, and in the past I have caught many of them from this spot.

We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
