Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Mr. & Mrs. Hawkins and their 18 year old twin boys from Fentoa, Michigan decided to go deep sea fishing in Ft. Lauderdale on the charter boat, Happy Day Today. The weather was great - the sun was shinning, wind 12-15 mph out of the northeast, which pushed the blue waters all the way to the 2nd reef. The Ft. Lauderdale sea buoy which sits in 120 ft. of water was loaded with bait. We trolled, picked up some live Bonitas and kept them in the well. We continued to troll, holding on to our live bait for doing some Tarpon fishing later on in the day off of Ft. Lauderdale.
After trolling around chatching Kings and Mahi Mahis, it was time to do some Tarpon fishing. Rick, one of the twins, decided to be the angler for the Tarpon, and Mitch, our mait, put out live Bonitas for bait on a 20 lb. spinner. Sitting off of Ft. Lauderdale with the school of Mullets lingering around, with Tarpons swimming close by, Mitch, pitched one of the Bonitas to a Tarpon that was rolling on the surface. Immediately, we hooked up with the Tarpon - Rick grabbed the rod and started to battle with the Tarpon. 25 minutes after the hook up, the Tarpon came to the boat - it measured out 69 inches long and estimated to be close to 80 lbs. Rick was thrilled with his catch. We took pictures of the Tarpon at the boat and as he swam away to fight another battle another day.

We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
Large schools of Mullets were still migrating to the south off of Ft. Lauderdale, which in return brings down the predators. Deep sea fishing off of Ft. Lauderdale produced numerous Sailfish this week plus Wahoos, Mahi Mahis and Tunas. The forecast for this weekend for Ft. Lauderdale is east northeast winds at 10 mph, which should make for a pleasant and fruitful deep sea fishing trip.
