Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Finally, the winds died down this weekend here in Ft. Lauderdale. During the week the winds were out of the northeast 15-20 mpg. Seas were running 5-6 ft, which did not stop us from going out deep sea fishing off of Ft. Lauderdale.
Today the winds subsided to 12 mph out of the east northeast with a north current 2 knots and blue water all the way into the second reef off of Ft. Lauderdale sea buoy.
Don Mezt and family from Cape May, New Jersey decided to go deep sea fishing off of Ft. Lauderdale on the Happy Day Today this weekend. Due to the rough seas the last couple of days, bait fish and predators were close in – 120-180 ft. of water. The Sailfish are here!!!! Not to long after setting out two kites off of Ft. Lauderdale, a Sailfish surfaced with his dorsal out of the water, looking at a live Goggle Eye which we had flying from the left long kite. A second or two went by and the Sailfish made a mistake – he decided to eat the bait and was immediately hooked up. After screaming off 100 yards of line on a TLD25, the Sailfish decided to do some acrobatics – coming out of the water and tail walking towards the boat, which made it more of a challenge to keep the line tight so that the Sailfish would not disengage the 6/0 salmon hook.
After a 25 minute battle, Mr. Mezt subdued the fish and brought it to the side of the boat. Our mate, Mitch, looked down at the Sailfish and made a remark on how the Sailfish was lit up. Lighting up is when the Sailfish turns his neon colors on. It is a site to see these different blues and silvers flashing in front of your eyes. After Mr. Mezt took some pictures of his catch, the Sailfish turned around and swam away screaming, "thank you".
This week was very productive for Sailfish and Wahoos; mixed bags of King Fish, Mahi Mahi and Tunas were also caught off of Ft. Lauderdale. The time and weather is right for Sailfish action to continue in the deep waters of Ft. Lauderdale.
We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
