Deep Sea Fishing Ft.Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt.Zsak

Capt. David Zsak
November 7, 2010
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The winds off of Ft. Lauderdale in the past few days have been north northeast 12-15 mph – a little bumpy but not bad. With these winds out of the northeast, deep sea fishing off of Ft. Lauderdale picked up. The winds out of the northeast pushed the deep blue waters into the second reef which is approximately 80 ft. deep.

This week was an excellent week for hooking up Wahoos – the majority of the Wahoos were caught from 120 to 350 ft. of water, which is approximately 2 miles off shore off of Ft. Lauderdale. The Wahoos have been hooked up on live bait, which we have been flying from the kite, or trolling with a 3 ½ drome blue reflector spoon on plainers which run 30-45 ft. below the surface of the blue waters off of Ft. Lauderdale. We also had good hooks ups on surface baits using strips of Bonitas and Mullets. The weights of the Wahoos have run from 10-40 lbs. In addition to Wahoos, we have been hooking up with good size King Fish (from 5-15 lbs) with the same techniques and bait in shallower waters off of the third reef off of Ft. Lauderdale.

Sailfish hook ups were slow at the beginning of the week but increased along with the northeast winds. The majority of the Sailfish were migrating in 160-180 ft. of water off of Ft. Lauderdale. The Sailfish sizes have been around 40-45 lbs., with a length of 7 ½ ft. long. The best way to hook up Sailfish is to use live bait, preferably 2 flying kites using Goggle Eyes, Mullets or Speedos.

Roger Harden and family from New Jersey had a good time deep sea fishing off of Ft. Lauderdale on the Happy Day Today this week. All members of his family hooked up different varieties of fish and Mitch, the Mate, fillet the Wahoos and King Fish for them to take home and enjoy.
