Deep Sea Fishing Ft.Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsa

Capt. David Zsak
November 25, 2010
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sailfish season is here in sunny South Florida!!! Deep sea fishing in Ft. Lauderdale has been very active. Mr. Harding and family from Delaware had a very exciting deep sea fishing excursion in South Florida, Ft. Lauderdale on the Happy Day Today.

Mr. Harding decided to target sailfish, therefore, kite flying with live bait (Goggle Eyes, Tinker Mackerel, Blue Runners) was one way to go. Our plan was to troll north to an area where there are multiple wrecks sitting in 150 ft. of water, which hold the bait fish and in return feed Sailfish and any other predators. We started trolling north at the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale, zigzagging from 120 ft. out to 225 ft. using dead Ballyhoos as surface baits and pulling dredges for teasers, leaving the live baiting for later. It did not take too long before we hooked up a double header.

Immediately, both Sailfish came out of the water, one heading south and the other one heading east; Mrs. Harding was the angler for the south fish and Mr. Harding the angler for the other. After 5 minutes fighting the Sailfish Mitch, our mate, yelled up that the fish hooked by Mr. Harding took the less amount of line out. We decided to go after the sailfish closest to the boat. Little to my surprise, Mitch yelled up Mrs. Harding's Sailfish was closer to the boat now. It seems that Mrs. Harding was better at following Mitch's instructions and, therefore, brought the Sailfish into the boat quicker than Mr. Harding.

Once we released Mrs. Harding's Sailfish, we concentrated on bringing in Mr. Harding's. After 10 minutes, Mr. Harding brought his Sailfish onto the side of the boat and soon after, released it. Both Sailfish looked like a set of twins since they both measured 7 ½ feet long. Mr. Harding decided to get replicate mounts of the Sailfish, one for his office and the other for their home.

At that point, I decided not to troll up north to fly the kite with live bait but instead we stayed in the area off of Ft. Lauderdale and trolled around catching a couple of Mahi Mahi's and Black Fin Tunas.

We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, in South Florida, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
