Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past Sunday the seas off of South Florida Ft. Lauderdale were out of the east at 15 mph. Mr. Orchappe from Toronto, Canada and guests Frank and Sebastian chartered the Happy Day Today to do some deep sea fishing off of Ft. Lauderdale South Florida.
We started the day off by buying a dozen Goggle Eyes from Bud the "baitman" who goes out every morning off of Ft. Lauderdale to catch Goggle Eyes. These baits are nocturnal feeders; once the sun rises, they stop feeding, so the bait boats are very important to us and are an excellent bait to catch Sailfish.
We ventured out to 160 ft. of water and put our two kites out, with two baits in each kite. Our kites have counterbalances on each corner, which in return spreads the kites apart so that they do not tangle.
Mitch put three Goggle Eyes out and one Mullet as baits on the kites, and one from the rigger with a 2 oz. lead on the line. Two Sailfish started chasing one of the baits from the kite. Of course, the fastest fish grabbed the bait first, leaving the other Sailfish to ponder, what other baits were around to eat. Immediately, the second Sailfish found the other bait from the second kite. These hook ups caused both Sailfish to jump out of the water simultaneously, one going to the east and the other going to the south. At this time of the year, Sailfish are migrating to the south, so it was not unusual to see the Sailfish going to the south. We chose to back down on the fish that was closest to the boat, the one heading to the east; the one hooked up by Sebastian. The angler did an excellent job bringing the Sailfish to the boat quickly.

Now, ¾ of the line of the reel was out on the other fish that was being fought by Frank. After the hectic battle with Sebastian's fish, Frank's Sailfish started to settle down. Tail walking on the water takes a lot of energy out of these fish, which makes it easier to handle them at the boat. Mitch leaned over the side, grabbed his bill and brought the fish into the boat. Take your pictures now, as the Sailfish flashed its neon colors, then Mitch released the Sailfish. What a great morning of deep sea fishing off of South Florida Ft. Lauderdale we had, said Mr. Orchappe, as Mitch raised the two Sailfish flags up the outrigger.

The migration of these predators will continue for the next few months; therefore, take advantage of these conditions for deep sea fishing in South Florida Ft. Lauderdale for hooking up Sailfish and Sharks.
