Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dr. Mike Silberman from South Miami charted the Happy Day Today to go deep sea fishing in South Florida, Ft. Lauderdale. Dr. Silberman and his son, Robert, just returned from a fishing trip in Costa Rica only to catch Tunas and Mahi, Mahi's but no Sailfish. He chartered the Happy Day Today to catch some Sailfish in the deep seas of South Florida, off of Ft. Lauderdale. After purchasing a dozen live Goggle Eyes from Bud the baitman, we left the dock at 7 am and headed north off of Ft. Lauderdale to the same wreck that has been holding Sailfish for the past five days.
This artificial wreck that sits in 180 ft. of water off of Ft. Lauderdale South Florida has been the feeding ground of Sailfish for the past five days. With little or no current, it is best to set up over or close to these artificial wrecks. Putting out two dredges, one with Ballyhoo and the other with Mullet, we also put out our live Goggle Eyes from the outriggers. In the meantime, Mitch, the mate, gave a rundown to Robert on the techniques of hooking up with Sailfish.

After missing two Sailfish, the third Sailfish finally got hooked. The Sailfish came up on the right short rigger behind the teaser and attacked the live Goggle Eye. The fight began – fishing with Shimano's TLD 25's makes it a sporting fight. Twenty-five minutes later, the fish came to the boat, Mitch grabbed hold of the bill, and pictures were taken of the beautiful Sailfish.
After picture taking, we released the fish unharmed to fight again another day. Fishing over the wreck also produced some nice King Fish ranging from 5-20 lbs. Both Robert and his father had smiles on their faces as we headed back, making this a successful trip
We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, in South Florida, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
