Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This afternoon we had a fun mix of charterers on the Reel Appeal. We had a couple from MN., A pair of Mathews from here and Gary from PA. who went out on the Monster fishing boat the day before where they were unable to satisfy his fishing hunger to say the least. I guess it goes back to that old saying that you get what you pay for! We headed south out of the inlet experiencing 4 - 6 ft. waves with the occasional 7 footer. No problem for the Reel Appeal! We popped the kites out and sent out our live bait ( goggle eyes ). For a while there was no action. On the radio a few of the boats were catching bonitos and a few dolphin on the troll but we decided to stick with the kite fishing in hopes for some excitement landing a sailfish as well as some dolphin (mahi - mahi ) for the charterers to eat for dinner. Captain Kent " kunta " Smith and Mate Kevin Rowland delivered as usual as if on cue! Our lady charterer from MN. landed a beauty of a sailfish! She fought it all the way to the back of the boat and Mate Kevin grabbed the leader and started to pull the sailfish in when the line unwrapped from the sailfish's bill. The sailfish was bill-wrapped! No worries. She had fun fighting the trophy sailfish! Then we caught 3 dolphin in a row and moral was on the up and up! Kevin reset the kite baits and almost immediately it was sailfish on!

This sailfish was caught by Mathew Reed from down here and it was the neatest looking sailfish we've seen in a long time.

After that we caught one more Dolphin and then we headed back in. A great day of fishing and celebrating back at the dock.
