Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Nice tuna and mahi-mahi bite happening in Fort Lauderdale this week. On the reefs, we're getting slammed by the tunas. Nice sized blackfins are biting all over the place in 80-140ft of water. Trolling with rigged ballyhoo or lures with strips baits behind them are working the best. Using the outriggers to spread out our surface baits and planers which bring a couple of the baits deep, we can cover the entire water column and cover a lot of territory out there. Trolling is all about territory coverage. This is the season for trolling the reef. No other time of year gives you the same potential for a lot of action.

Offshore, the mahi-mahi are showing up. They are spotty, but they are biting. You just gotta find them. There's a lot of area out there, so we concentrate on trolling along weedlines, looking for birds or trying to find that little pot of gold under the rainbow... a floating piece of debris large enough to hold fish. Find that and you're likely to load your box up with dolphin in a hurry. This week we have been fortunate to find a few floating objects with some hungry fish underneath. A few very kind birds helped us to locate them. Good dolphin fishing for those willing to put in the time to find them.

Offshore and Reef fishing is hot this month in Fort Lauderdale. The action is good and some really nice fish are there to be found. Good luck to everyone fishing out there this week. I'll sea ya on the water.
