Big Fish Are Biting on the Fort Lauderdale Wrecks

Good action the past few days on deep sea fishing trips. The trolling has been good for a lot small to medium sized tunas, some kingfish, a few barracudas and even an odd wahoo here and there. Trolling is our staple technique of fishing this time of year because it allows you to cover a great deal of ground out there. Trolling is all about territory coverage. Drag your baits over as much fertile water as you can to give yourself the best chances at driving over some big fish. We certainly get the best action throughout the day by trolling. But when trolling fades or gets boring, our captains like to go do some deep drops over a shipwreck or two. You never know what creature of the deep will bite when you drop a frisky like bait over the top of a shipwreck.

December is a great month for bottom fishing. last year, we caught literally A TON of black groupers. They were biting like mad around all the shallow shipwrecks. This year, they haven't much started their run yet, but I'm betting they are about to start biting good soon. Amberjacks are biting really good this month. One fish that we have been able to catch really good over the past few weeks is amberjacks. Amberjacks are one of the strongest fish in the ocean, pound for pound. Some big ones are beginning to show up strong around our local wrecks. It's good to see them showing up so strong, so early in the year.

You can catch anything when fishing around the wrecks. Big groupers, different species of jacks, cobia sometimes swim through, big sharks, barracuda and more. A sunken shipwreck is a whole eco-system, beginning with the plethora of baitfish and available food to be found around these underwater habitats. And perhaps the best thing about wreck fishing is that they don't take a big chunk of time to go and try. You can pull up to it, position the boat, make your drop and potentially be hooked up to a big game fish in only a couple minutes.

Good luck to everyone fishing this week on our Fort Lauderdale fishing charters. I'll sea ya on the water.
