Good Fishing is About to Get Better

Capt. Mario Cote
January 6, 2014
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Wind has been blowing almost every day, but we were still able to get out and caught some nice fish for our customers. Before New Year's we caught some nice mahi on the troll up to 25 lbs. We also caught some smaller ones on live pilchards. On recent trips we've also been able to jump a few sailfish and catch some nice kingfish.

Most of our fishing is done with live bait, but if live bait is not available, will do a little of trolling. Our last trip before New Year's saw some really rough weather and the bite on top was nonexistent, so I decided to do some trolling. We used small trolling feathers in 250' to 300' and caught a dozen good size blackfin tuna.

We also did some reef fishing for a customer with a young boy and caught some mutton snapper, lots of little tunny (AKA bonito or false albacore) and a nice African pompano that took a flat lined pilchard. We also caught a really nice hound fish.
