Eric Pildner and Adam Miller from Tennessee and Nick, Kevin and Joey Smallacombo from South Florida chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We had clear skies and good weather today.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two #8 plainers down and four surface baits and headed offshore in 500 ft. of water looking for weed lines, targeting Mahi Mahi's. The first three fish we caught were smaller size Barracudas and they were caught on the down rigger line. Pictures were taken of the figh,t and the Barracudas were released, since they are not edible fish.

We reset our lines and continued trolling. A dark shadow appeared on the right long – a Sailfish – Dorsal out of the water – hooked up. Eric was the angler and he hopped into the fighting chair to do battle. The Sailfish came out of the water putting on a magnificent acrobatic show. Twenty minutes later, Eric brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat – pictures were taken, the hook was removed and the Sailfish was released to fight again.

We continued heading east looking for any type of floating debris which the Mahi Mahi's would be under and finally ran into a nice big school of Mahi Mahi's. All of the fish were hanging around a sea weed patch which was 4 to 5 miles long. We ended up catching a total of 15 Mahi Mahi's - five of which we released because they were undersized.

It was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock, our mate, Mark, filet out the fish for tonight's dinner.
