Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing this holiday season is going good. Lots of different species are biting good on the reef and wrecks. This week the weather hasn't cooperated too well for us, so we haven't been fishing much this week. But the days when the weather has been nice, we've done well. There are some big fish showing up around the wrecks. Big amberjacks are biting great, which is cool to see because they usually slow down this late in the season. Black groupers are a definite possibility when fishing the wrecks too. They have been biting really good in December the past couple years.

Other bottom species such as mutton snapper, red groupers, hogfish, yellowtail snapper and more are biting good on our deep sea fishing trips this month too. Our daily drift fishing trips are catching a good amount of yellowtail and mangrove snappers, especially at night.
December is usually a nice mixed bag of fish.

Pelagic fish such as blackfin tuna and wahoo are also biting good. We catch them mostly when we go trolling, as they like a faster moving bait. Kingfish and sailfish are also possibilities that we catch often when we troll the reefs of Fort Lauderdale. You can catch mahi mahi this time of year but they are sporadic and don't bite every day. We see them strong for a couple days and they disappear for a few days. That's the general pattern with mahi mahi in December.

Good fishing for those who have been out there. Like I said, the weather has been uncooperative for the past few days so we have been limited on the trips that we could run. Fortunately, the weather looks like it will get very nice for Fort Lauderdale fishing tomorrow and onward, so we should get a good week of fishing this Christmas Holiday. Let's go fishing!
