Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The action on the bottom fish this week off the coast of Fort Lauderdale is really good. There are some nice snappers, groupers, jacks and other bottom fish biting out there. June is generally a great month for fishing the reefs. The snappers are spawning during the full moon we have going on this week. Every year, on the full moon in May and June, the mutton snappers come out of the woodwork to feed and do their annual spawn. They congregate on some specific spots out there, throw caution to the wind and they get jiggy with it. Females lay the eggs and males come in to the cloud that is created and fertilize. Snappers get really aggressive and eat just about everything they come across. Snappers are normally very cautious feeders but this week they are not. They will eat just about anything they come across, stuff they would normally shake their heads at.

Groupers are also biting good. The wrecks, any of them from 60-360ft of water, are holding various species of groupers. Red groupers, black groupers, snowy groupers and warsaw groupers are all occupants on our local shipwrecks. June is said to be the best grouper fishing month of the year. This year is no exception. You can anchor up and chum for the snappers and groupers, or you can go deep dropping over the shipwrecks with a 3 or 4 hook grouper rig. The fishing is awesome this month so get out there and get some. Good luck everyone,
