Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

With snow, sleek and rain in the northern east coast, fishing Fort Lauderdale is a must, with sunny skies, temperature in the mid 70's, winds out of the west northwest at 10-16 mph and seas 3-4 ft.

Cooper Kennedy and wife from Rhode Island chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing Fort Lauderdale FL. After leaving the dock, we stopped off at the Fort Lauderdale inlet to purchase some Goggle Eyes from T&T Live Bait Boat. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock we were sitting in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL. We went right into kite fishing with two kites out, two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one live Goggle Eye with a spin on lead from the outrigger. With the conditions right and the migration of Sailfish going by Fort Lauderdale, the trap was set.

Our first fish was a Kingfish from the left long kite in the 10 lb. range, followed by a couple more 10 pounders. As we set up the kites again in the same area, the predator made his appearance - a black shadow swam underneath the right short kite bait. He rose out of the water with his bill and dorsal fin exposed, as the Sailfish attacked the live Goggle Eye. Immediately the Sailfish came out of the water as he tail-walked towards the boat in the typical Sailfish fashion, trying to dislodge the hook from his mouth - a draw-dropping experience!!!! The fight was on as Mrs. Kennedy kept the line taught and did a fantastic angling job. Twenty-five minutes later, Jackson, our mate, put the Sailfish in the boat for picture taking, afterwards the Sailfish was released.

We went back to the same area off of Fort Lauderdale FL and set up the two kites again. This time on the right long an explosion occurred on the bait, as white water blew up. Line screamed off the reel, with no idea as to who the predator was. Twenty minutes later Jackson leaned over the side and gaffed the Anaconda, a 33 lb. Kingfish – good job Cooper!

With a full smile on everyone's faces, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
