Fishing Fort Lauderdale! Day One Saga! Reel Appeal! WOW!

Capt. Kent "Kunta" Smith
December 10, 2011
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This morning we headed out at 7am and we had the pleasure of entertaining a group of buddies from PA.! The waters were a little rough. We experienced 1-3 foot waves at times but with a strong south current. Fishing was a little tough for most out there but Captain Kent Smith " Kunta " and mate Kevin knew exactly what time it was and turned it up a few levels to make it happen for the group of great guys from PA.! Next thing you know a huge Wahoo made 2 passes at one of the long baits and missed the first time, second time but then crushed it the third time and darted straight down and got loose in a matter of seconds! Almost immediately the right mid bait got crushed by a different Wahoo and this one didn't get away! Yahoooooo! Wahooo bagged and tagged! Next we caught a Kingfish that was all of 5 pounds but it crushed a 9 inch goggle eye! Unbelievable! Then we caught a nice mahi mahi at the same time our left long kite bait got crushed by a huge sailfish! The sailfish danced and pranced and gave Bennett the thrill of a life time!

Pretty Work! Bagged and tagged and we decided to troll a bit changing it up bit and we caught 3 nice little tunas and headed back in to rest up and do some night time shark hunting!

All had time to recharge and we headed out to do some shark hunting. We tweeked our positioning a little from the normal set up depth. We creeped in a bit shallower from the norm and it took all of 5 minutes and it was Go! Kunta! Go! Caleb hopped in the fighting chair and Mate Kevin set up the 130 in the gimbal and coached Caleb through out his victorious battle in the cockpit after an hour and a half landing a very rare to catch off the coast of florida none other than a big eyed thresher!

Big eyed thresher's are federally protected and we dragged the sea monster into the boat took pictures and measurements ( six hundred pounds and 12 feet long ) and released the monster back in the water to fight another day. WOW! Honestly folks, Reel Appeal MAKES IT HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN! The Guys from PA. headed off the dock to celebrate and gear up to do it again tomorrow. Stay tuned for day two the saga continues!
