Keith Beneteau and Joe Monteleone along with their three daughters all from Canada chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale. As they were welcomed aboard the boat by the Topshotfishing team, the question was asked, "What would you like to catch on this fishing trip?", and their response was "Sailfish!!".

On the way out we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait located in Fort Lauderdale at the Port. Fifteen minutes from there, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off in Fort Lauderdale.

We started off trolling with two #8 plainers down – both with sea witches and double hooked Bonito strips behind them. For surface baits, we went with three Ballyhoos.

As we trolled the reefs the three young ladies and their fathers rotated catching a total of ten Kingfish, one Black Fin Tuna, three Bonitos and one 48" Barracuda. It was now time to try our luck at Sailfishing so we put out two kites with two live Goggles Eyes from each kite. As both families were talking about their good times while vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, a black shadow appeared on the left long – Sailfish!!! Bill and dorsal out of the water chasing the bait until he caught it – hooked up!!!! Sailfish on!!!! He tail-walked across the surface of the water. Keith was our angler and after a twenty-five-minute battle, Dave, our mate, wired the fish for picture taking. We reset again in the same location and shortly afterwards – right short – Sailfish!!! Joe was our angler on this one and subdued the Sailfish in the same time with the same results.

With mission accomplished, it was now time to head back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock.
