Fishing in Ft. Lauderdale yielding Mahi and Tuna

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Mahi-Mahi and Blackfin Tuna have been offshore for those offshore anglers fishing in Ft. Lauderdale. Pictured are Bill, Hunn, Michael and April who joined Capt. Chris for a charter. Our usual north current and clean water pushed up to and on top of the outside reef line and made for favorable conditions. Bill and Hunn are experienced inshore and offshore anglers and their guests Michael and April were new to offshore fishing. Pleasant weather this trip and our summer showers have been giving us a break. Very few really rainy days, but we do get some rain this time of year.
In addition to the Blackfin Tuna and Mahi-Mahi the Kingfish have been fairly active on most days. 90 to 130 feet have been best for the Kings. Grouper season is open but we have caught only a few. This is a good time for Mutton Snapper and they are on structure as well as scattered along the reefs. Grey Tilefish out in around 400 feet. We haven't tried the Goldens for some time now as the Grays are biting well. They (Greys) tend to move a bit, and some days will be better in slightly deeper or shallower water. And we seem to often do the best on them on bright sunny days as opposed to cloudy ones. Go figure, it must be pitch black @ 400 feet on the bottom. Amberjacks still around the wrecks but slowing down. Wahoo not really around right now inshore but you will find the smaller ones under and in the immediate vicinity of floatsum and boards, etc. offshore. Pick your speed up a tad if you are trolling offshore and you should get a few more bites and better hookups on those smaller Wahoo.
Tight lines, Capt. Rick
