Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
Today was one of those days that we could do no wrong. We left the dock with Nancy, Bev and Gerry all from Little Fork Minn. We went out to 180 feet of water and set out our 2 kites with 4 live goggle eyes (live Baits) suspended from them.
Once we got all the baits set it did not take long till our first bite a nice dolphin fish. We got him in the boat and started getting the baits right back out there but before we knew it here comes another dolphin fish. Soon there after another and then another. Man thing s just kept getting better and better for us when all of a sudden here comes a sailfish. This one was for Gerry and he could not wait to get in the chair. It took him a good 20 minutes to finally get his sailfish to the boat. We got the hook out of the fish got a couple quick pictures to have a replica mount made of his catch (82inches) and watched him swam away in good shape to fight again another day.
When it was all said and done we had 4 nice dolphin fish one nice kingfish and we were one for two on the sails. (What a day) Thanks again guys and I'm sure we will be seeing you guys again but remember this is a hard day to top.

March 25
Today we really did not think we were going to get the chance to go fishing due to the winds. It had to be blowing a good 20 to 25 knots out of the South east and we knew that our charter that our charter were no spring chickens but much to our surprise not only did we go fishing not one of our anglers got sick and to top it off we caught some real nice fish.
We had Nancy, Brad, Kermit, Vicky, Don and Dorothy from Hector Min. To make the seas a confertable as possible we went right to kite fishing. So we set out both kites with live baits suspended from them and from there it did not take long till we got our first bite.
We caught a real nice dolphin fish and set our baits right back out there. Then we had a big sail fish come up and check out one of our baits but he was not going to eat and swam off (RATS). That's ok because right after that we got another nice dolphin fish in the boat. And soon thereafter we were catching BIG Bomber Bonitos. What an action packed morning of fishing. We ended up catching 2 real nice dolphin fish and three big bonitos. And everyone had a ball I'll bet these guys also like roller coaster rides (LOL).
Once we got back to the dock took a few pictures and cleaned the dolphin fish up for everyone and got ready for our afternoon trip.
This afternoon we had Daniel, Oskar and Martin out for the afternoon fishing trip and we had high hopes after this morning's trip. So we once again set out our kites and the trap was set and the wait began. We waited for a good long time and I guess that Martin was getting tired of waiting and he decided to take matters into his own hands and CHUM up the fish for us. I noticed he was looking over the side of the boat and thought he might be looking for the fish. But once I heard the noise coming out of his stomach I knew what he was up to. And I've got to give credit where credit is due. Just after Martin started CHUMING the waters for us up popped this very large sailfish and I guess all the smell in the water got him hungry because he piled on our bait as if someone was going to take it away from him.
(WE WERE HOOKED UP THANKS MARTIN) You are the man.
I guess Martin really did not want to reel any fish in he just wanted to help his friends out so Daniel jumped in the chair and the fight was on. This was a good size sailfish and it had no intentions of getting caught. It took a good 25 minutes but Daniel never let up and at last we got him to the side of the boat. We got a couple of quick pictures and watched him swam away in great shape to fight another day.

March 28
Today we got to the boat and the wind is still blowing and the seas were a good 3 to 5 foot. We have had a good week of bad weather and I've got to say we are shot. However our customers have been taking it better than we would have thought. We have only come back in early to the dock on a couple of trips most everyone has toughed it out and it has paid off with nice catches. And today was no exception.
We started out fishing with Paula, Judy and Mindy from New York and from Chicago.
We started out the inlet knowing that the most conferrable way to fish was going to be kite fishing and that's just what we did. We set out both kites with live baits suspended from them.
We started fishing in about 180 feet of water and I held the boat in that depth for some time without a bite. I was listening to the radio and not much seemed to be biting so I decided to work our way out to a little deeper water. Once we got out to 250 feet of water we got our first bite a nice dolphin fish. Paula jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It was a nice fish but due to the seas there was no way I was going to back down on the fish. Paula would have to bring the fish to the boat on her own. Once she got the fish close to the boat the fish made a couple of quick turns from one side of the boat to the other but on one of the turns the fish was making he came just a little too close to the boat and that was the break Captain Greg was looking for. Nice Dolphin 15 to 18 pounder. The girls will be eating well tonight. We got our baits right back out there and all of a sudden I seen a splash by one of our long kite baits and up comes a sailfish dancing all over the surface of the water.
This time Judy jumped in the chair and man did she have her hands full. She kept trying to reel the monster sailfish to the boat but the more she reeled the more the fish went in the other direction. After a few minutes of this the fish managed to pinch his way through the leader. No Judy you did not do anything wrong. That just part of fishing. So many times when we are out there fishing and say we get a nice fish on and it gets away people seem to beat them self's up over it. Well I'm here to tell you that the fish is trying to get away so give the fish a little credit for doing his job. All in all the girls had a good time and for sure they are eating well. Thanks again Judy and next time not so rough.
As we pulled back to the dock to pick up our afternoon trip we had Mike, Brett and Kevin there waiting on us. We went right back out to the same spot where we had hooked into the sailfish earlier and set out kites right back out there.
This time the wait was not quite so long. Soon after setting our kites out up popped a sailfish and Mike wasted no time getting in the chair. Since the ocean was as rough as it was Captain Greg had changed all the leaders from 80 pound mono leaders to # 6 wire this way we knew the fish would not have the chance of pinching his way through the leader. It was a back and forth tug a wear for a good 25 minutes but at last Mike got his fish close enough to the boat for Greg to grab him. We took the hook out of the fish mouth got a quick measurement (84 inches) and a couple of pictures and watched him swam away in great shape.

We set our baits right back out there and before we knew it here comes another sail fish trying to eat one of our baits. This time Kevin jumped in the chair and once again we were Hooked Up. It took Kevin about 20 minutes to get his fish near the boat. We got a couple of pictures of his fish swimming next to the boat and set him free to fight again another day.
Ok two down and one to go. We still needed to get Brett Hooked Up. We seen a big swirl next to one of our kite baits and up came a small dolphin fish jumping. Brett jumped in the chair and started reeling him right to the boat but just out of gaffing range his fish spit the hook and swam away. (RATS)
But that was ok we still had a little time left to fish and it seemed as though we were on fire. None of the other boats had seen much this afternoon and we seemed to be in the ZONE so we felt as though we still had a good shot at catching everyone on the boat a nice fish.
And there he was a big cobia eating one of our kite baits. Brett jumped in the chair and started reeling and just kept reeling trying to get the line tight on the fish. This fish just kept swimming toward the boat and we never could get the line tight on him. But we figured he had swallowed the hook all the way down and I did not want to go ahead with the boat because we figured that there might be more fish with him. Most of the time when you see one cobia there are more with him.
I'm sorry to say that there were no other fish with him and this one also got off the hook. (RATS)
