Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had two great guys from Pittsburgh charter us and we left around 6am still dealing with the full moon woohs but we're not letting that stop us from fishing! Leaving the jetties we had a little trickle of north current with not to much wind at all. It was going to get hot quick. We trolled for a little while and finally our guys from Pittsburgh got some action on the long planer. It was a nice big old bonito bomber! Hoping the troll would pick up after landing the bomber showed for nothing and Captain Kunta suggested to our charter that we should switch up and catch some live bait and go for a trophy fish. The guys from Pittsburgh were game for Captain Kunta's new plan of attack. We caught several runners and headed towards the ledge. Danimal, Reel Appeal's mate dropped a runner off the down rigger and about 10 minutes later it was fish on! Our charterer must have fought his Barracuda for a solid 30 minutes on our light tackle spinner! His Barracuda ran twice and he had to muscle him back in again and again!

A real fun fight! You couldn't ask for anything more. We headed back in and made plans for sword fishing in 2 weeks time.
Our afternoon charter consisted of two couples all friends from Dallas, Texas. We started out trolling a little and quickly switched up and decided to hit some wrecks. Conditions really hadn't changed since morning and Captain Kunta felt confident with our decision. At the second wreck when Danimal was dropping the live bait down for the charter the bait was struck and struck hard. After fighting the fish for 45 minutes we hulled in a hell of a fighting golden amber jack! They have a beautiful colors such as purple and gold and silverish white. Our charterer wanted it for his wall back home in Dallas. He said it'll make a wonderful conversation piece. Boy, will it ever!

Next, we decided on trying our luck on landing a shark. Danimal put out our 3 shark baits and we waited and waited and waited until finally we got a bite on our bottom bait and Captain Kunta sped ahead! Their was a little confusion amongst our charter as to why it was so easy to reel in such a sea monster like a shark. That just goes to show you that you just never know what your going to catch. Moments later up comes a nice 3 pound yellow tail snapper! That's good eating and a Surprising way to end the trip. Big smiles and good times is what the Reel Appeal is all about.
