Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Melissa and Mike joined us today for a little deep sea charter fishing in Fort Lauderdale. The couple they had brought with them had done some fishing, but as our day went on, Andrew and I became quite spoiled with the amount of help both provided.
We get many levels of experience on board the Marlin MY Darlin from complete novices to some experienced anglers. But even experienced anglers aren't always familiar with techniques that we use. What made this sort of special was that Melissa and Mike live in Palm Beach County, just up the road from us, and they were and are very familiar with our techniques. Had we known this from the start, we might have done better with that quad of Sailfish that began our day first thing.
We had just set up, gotten the kites out in strong, gusty winds and fairly heavy seas. It took just moments before one Sail appeared below the right short bait. Another popped up on the right short as the first one ate and swam away from the boat. Andrew was feeding the first and waiting for the second when number 3 and 4 popped up on the long baits. The right long was a fierce bite and immediately ran south, right across the first fish that bit. And then… one, I don't know which one, jumped. Time to go! Andrew locked up all 4 reels and we began moving the boat ahead to get tight with our fish.
One sucked off the bait and was gone but the other 3 were connected and tight.
And then, it happened as we were handing the rods to our anglers. The fish that had eaten the right long had crossed the fish from the right short. When monofilament line runs quickly across another line, it "burns" it's way through and both fish were gone, leaving us one which was caught and released after pictures in the water.
As the trip went on after that, catching Dolphin, some Kingfish, a few Bonito and finally another Sail, we found that Melissa and Mike we quiet good at not only setting their own hooks, but fighting fish as well. It got to the point when the bite would come, and they came often today, Andrew would just hand of the rod as the fish ate, and let Mike or Melissa deal with it, as he watched and handled the rest of the rods. If only we known what we learned as the day went on when those first few fish had popped up, we might have had better percentage on that quad.
Deep sea charter fishing in Fort Lauderdale. I think we've made new friends.
