Fort Lauderdale Charter Fishing/ Dolphin for Dell

Capt. John Logan
November 30, 2011
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fort Lauderdale charter fishing finally got a break in our rainy, windy weather of the last 5 days or so and the folks from Dell computers wanted Dolphin for dinner. With all the rain, the water near shore was green and clouded. A quick check with a few commercial fishing friends told the story on the reef. Fishing was tough, no two ways about it. But just off the shore about 3 miles was a line of blue. Clean ocean water, just the place to look for some Mahi's.
Baits out and ready to go, we began running with the current. Out first strike was a medium sized Barracuda that came right from the tide line that had some current as well. Our guests were happy to have a fish to the boat and we began our search for something a bit more edible.
A few lines came down and we had one nice sized Dolphin on. A little prospecting on the high line hooked another. Both these fish were about 10 or so pounds and giving our anglers a little trouble. We cleared all other lines and got down to the task at hand. The fish cooperated, staying away from each other, a trick they pull often, crossing the lines, and we now had the two fish boated, finally. A few lines out and turn was made and another struck and was landed, the same size as the others. Things were looking up!
Another pass yielded another strike, a medium sized Skipjack Tuna, but on the flip to the boat, he broke free and was lost. And that was it… for a while.
We trolled further north to no avail. We found a number a Frigate birds working and area and saw one large fish, probably a Sailfish chasing bait but never got the bite. Back on the edge looking for more.
Another volley of fish came through and we had 3 on lines with another missed. But this time, we only got one to the boat. One was trouble boat side and came off, another jumped off. This happens when the angler becomes engrossed in the view and forgets to stay tight with the fish. It happens to all, even experienced fishermen… or is that fisherpersons? None the less another NICE Dolphin, bigger than the others, was boated and our time was up.
