Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Charter fishing off Fort Lauderdale today had Bob and his group from Spirit Airlines aboard the Marlin My Darlin. A hearty group they were too. The forecast was for rough seas and the weather service got one right! But the sun was shining as we headed out and once past the tidal currents and effects of Port Everglades, the seas spaced out and it became more comfortable.
The ocean today was a mix of green water from inshore rains and blue, ocean water which ran in streaks. The blue water is where you expect to find Mahi-mahi and we found an area a bit off shore that had some scattered weed and looked "fishy". It was about 45 minutes of fishing for our first bite, a small Blackfin Tuna, and since we had been bouncing around, this was a good sign! I think I saw on of the guys start drooling as we tossed him in the box, they are good eating.
Just a bit further off shore, the weed became a bit more concentrated and we caught our first Dolphin. Not quite as big as they have been of late, but still the perfect eating size. This group was hungry and more fish were wanted and needed.
We worked this area between 600' and 720' of water over and over again. Each pass produced a hit or two. A tiny Wahoo was boated, a few more Dolphin and then another Wahoo about 10 pounds.
We also noticed the seas beginning to calm as the tide turned to incoming. All in all, we ended up with 11 Mahi, 4 Wahoo and 4 or 5 small Blackfin Tuna and it was time to go home.
I've included one picture of one Mahi that was caught. You have to have a picture, right? Well, most do when you are charter fishing off Fort Lauderdale…

Target Species:

Sailfish, Shark, Dolphin, Tuna, Wahoo Kingfish, Bonito, Barracuda, Swordfish Marlin and more...
