Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fort Lauderdale charter fishing attracts all kinds of people hoping to catch Sailfish. When it turns out that one of these people is an old friend from the Chicago area, it's even better.
Jack, who lives in Lincolnwood, was down on business. I haven't seen him in a few years and was looking to go on a split charter. We ended up taking him by himself on a quick trip the other afternoon and had a ball catching up on old times as well as catching some quality fish.
A fresh wind had the seas somewhat choppy but not big as we deployed the kites. A flat line out the side attracted the attention of a Sailfish after just a short time. We watched as the fish chased the bait up close to the boat and ate it before beginning to swim off. Jack had done this before and was thrilled when the fish came tight and jumped. With some coaching from Chris, we landed the fish in about 20 minutes and released him boat side. Because of the stress and energy he had expended, he was extremely tired and we opted not to boat the fish but let him remain in the water swimming as we set him free. Sorry, no picture for this one.
With little time left, as the current was strong and out travel time back to the dock getting longer with each minute passing, we reset the kites and another nice bite was on. No idea what this fish was, as it screamed line off the rod, we patiently played it expecting a jump to reveal itself to us. After 15 minutes or so we had this 30 lb. Wahoo next to the boat, gaffed and in the box. All Jack could say was "There's dinner"…

Time to go home… This one we got a picture of!
Charter fishing in Fort Lauderdale is great with new or old friends.
