Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Deep sea fishing off Fort Lauderdale is a great experience even when the catching is poor but nothing ruins a trip quicker than being sea sick. The other day we had Jeff and his wife Becky aboard. They had driven almost 10 hours from Georgia to get here for their trip the next day. Seas were rough and conditions of a chopped up ocean affects different people in different ways. Some folks are just fine while others don't fare very well.
The sea state is not always the reason for this malady, it can happen at any time in any sea condition. I've even seen people get whoosie on the boat tied to the dock and there are a few ways to help avoid this.
First off is being rested. Many come down to party hardy and that's just fine. But a semi decent night's sleep can sure do wonders for the next day of fishing.
Secondly, having something in your stomach is also a good thing. I'm not talking about a full blown breakfast buffet or huge lunch, but toast and eggs, a few pancakes, a bagel, just something is much better than an empty stomach.
The third thing that can be a tremendous help is Dramamine or other over the counter motion sickness pills. It's best to get a couple of doses in you before the trip. If you're going in the morning, one dose before bed the night before will help you sleep. A second dose about an hour before getting on the boat will help the drug get into your system and give it a chance to work.
No matter the precautions you have or haven't taken, once on the sea, especially when it's bouncy, try and limit your exposure inside the cabin to minimal stays. For whatever reason, enclosed places make this worse. Being unable to see the horizon or land seems to bring this on faster than anything.
Jeff was unaffected by the seas but Becky spent the day suffering, though she did recover a few times to watch her husband reel in a few fish including one big Kingfish about 30+ pounds. And she caught the first fish of the day, a nice Dolphin. We caught a few more of those as well as some other Kings but all in all it was slow. We never saw what we had hoped for, a Sailfish. I sure would have liked to provide that for BOTH these Vikings.

Deep sea fishing off Fort Lauderdale can be a blast. Let us help you enjoy it.
