Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing/ Dolphin/ Tuna

Capt. John Logan
November 27, 2011
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale is just like fishing anywhere in the world as far as how things go, their order to catch fish. You prepare and present your bait to the fish and wait for their response. Couldn't be simpler, right?
Well, some days, especially this time of year in Fort Lauderdale, opportunities are presented to you by nature in the form of a visual aid like we encountered today. Not even to the ocean yet, we saw Spanish Mackerel feeding on finger sized Mullet in the port. A quick hand line out the back and a little time to rig a few spoons on rods and we were catching "macs" in a matter of minutes. Within 30 minutes or so we had over 20 of these excellent eating fish in the boat. Not oily or fishy as their big brothers, Kingfish, can be. We hadn't even started yet and already have had a ball catching fish!
Leaving the port we headed further off shore in search of Mahi-mahi. If you've been reading there, you know that it has been a trend the last few years of some excellent fishing for Dolphin in the late summer and early fall. The last few days had been producing some nice sized Dolphin and medium Tuna out in 600 to 800'. Coming across a slight color change, we encountered a few "gaffers" and some small Tuna. Another ½ mile from us the water was erupting with another school of Tuna feeding and we increased our catch. By 10:30 in the morning, we had filled the box on this sunny, Chamber of Commerce, day in Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing just a few miles from shore.
Is this a happy crew or what?
