Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing Charters

Capt. John Logan
January 4, 2017
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

As we wrote in our last report we were hoping for some good fish to be available for us on our
Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing charters with this latest front blowing through. Basically no rain with this passing front but we are seeing a bit of wind as the breeze has swung quickly to the Southeast.

We continue to catch some really nice fish. That Kingfish in the picture with Miss.Wolfe hit the scales @ 48 1/2 pounds, falling for a live Bullet Bonito fished out of the long riggger in 90 feet of water just north of our inlet. With Port Everglades here in Ft. Lauderdale we very often have large ships at anchor always just to the north of our inlet (anchoring of large ships south of the inlet is forbidden) and that King was right next to one of them, as many are, checking out the baitfish that swarm those ships. Good sized Mahi-Mahi continue to pop up in the baits with a couple in the 20s.
Wahoo and smaller Blackfin Tunas off the edge on a morning charter for Captain Kopper. Amberjacks still on some wrecks with Tilefish biting well in the deep deep water. We had a nice catch and release Sailfish this morning for Captain Fann.

But there continue to be some gaps on some days with no really good numbers of schoolie Kings on some trips when we try them. They are in tight small bunches and can be difficult to keep track of and many are small to boot. The Mahi-Mahi can be finicky this time of year and a frisky live bait is by far the best way to get their attention. They are really into the flying fish and an abundance of the flyers has kept them pretty full and at times indifferent to trolled baits. When they show it helps to be ready with a fresh live bait and try to hit him close with it so he reacts instinctively and bites before he thinks too long about it.

Another small front is on the way and we'll be looking forward to the dip one again in the temperature and hopefully another push of fish into our area. Tight lines and good fishing/ Marlin My Darlin
