Fort Lauderdale Fishing

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

James and Alisa Bisch, along with James' son-in-law, Eric Conner, and his son, Landon, age 5, all from Tennessee chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This was Landon's first fishing excursion so he was quite excited. Winds were out of the east at 5 mph, seas running 2-3 ft., temperatures in the mid 80's.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water off of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two plainers down, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a black and purple sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

We trolled the reefs catching four Kingfish between 8 – 12 lbs. Eric decided that he would like to do some Shark fishing, so I headed out to the Shark grounds which are located in 350 ft. of water south of Fort Lauderdale. I put out one surface bait, one mid-range bait and one on the bottom. Twenty-five minutes into fishing, the mid-range line screamed off of the 80 International Reel. Alisa jumped into the fighting chair first to feel the strength of the mighty Shark and then handed the rod over to Eric to do battle. Forty-five minutes later, Eric seduced the 93" Dusky Shark, which was tagged and released to do battle again. After catching the Shark, we trolled the reefs and Landon caught two Bonitos.

With a smile on everyone's face, it was time to head back. All the anglers relaxed in the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
