John and Andrea, along with their son, Matt and grandfather, Paul, from Plantation, Florida chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Matt was home this weekend from law school at the University of Florida to spend time with his family in this fishing expedition in Fort Lauderdale. As the family boarded the boat, they were welcomed on board by the Topshotfishing team.

Fifteen/twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off, with depth reaching 2,500 ft. deep in the middle of the Straights of Florida (Gulf Stream). We started out trolling with two plainers down – one with a 2 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits, we went with four Ballyhoos.

As I trolled the drop-off off the third reef, which is 120 ft. deep, I could see a color change and the birds working the area towards the east. I headed towards the birds – when you see birds working the area, they are not just flying around getting exercise. They are feeding on bait fish and in return the predators will be in the area feeding too. All three generation anglers took turns bringing in their fish and taking pictures of the event. We caught a total of four Black Fin Tunas, three Bonitas and two undersized Mahi Mahi's, which we threw back.

It was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
