Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today Captain Justin and mate Jake handled the afternoon Lady Pamela sportfishing charter out of Ft. Lauderdale. The fishing was great, with their anglers boating bonitos and kingfish on the troll, as well as a few tile fish on the bottom in 350 feet of water. The charter party they took fishing were also hoping to catch a monster shark so Justin and Jake set about preparing baits for sharkfishing. They also talked to the anglers about catching a jewfish, which is the largest species in the grouper family. They decided to give it one shot on a jewfish, and it wasn't ten minutes after putting baits in the water they hook a massive fish on the 130 lb tackle. Twenty minutes later they discovered a jewfish coming to the surface. Once they realized what it was it was hi fives all around, and Justin and Jake first jewfish is one they'll never forget. This brute was every bit of 300 lbs. that was photographed and released, as they are a protected species. What an impressive catch!

The local seafood restaurants generally offer a special "catch of the day" fish entrée to their customers. Well, it seems like Lady Pamela sportfishing's "catch of the week" has been bonito. These aggressive members of the tuna family range from 4 to 10 lbs and travel in large schools. Our anglers have been having a blast with multiple hookups when we come across schools of these fish. It is pretty exciting watching these fish jumping and thrashing around as they chase bait. Come join us and see for yourself!

The temperature today only got to 88 F but with no wind it felt like 100 degrees dockside. The good news is that with the lack of wind the Lady Pamela anglers had smooth seas to fish upon, even if it was a "little" bit hot. Fishing on the troll between 100 and 300 feet was tactic of choice today, and the heat didn't keep the fish away. The bonito bite was still strong, and a few kingfish even managed to grab the baits ahead of the bonitos.
August 16, 2012 Thursday
The Ft. Lauderdale weather has been spectacular all week, with clear skies and calm seas. The Lady Pamela sportfishing fleet has been working the reef edges from 100 to 250 feet, trolling for kingfish and bonito. The catches have been steady, and since we have the closest charter boats to the inlet, we can get to the bite before everyone else.
The nighttime driftfishing is producing good catches of yellowtail and mutton snappers. The calm seas and the cooler temperatures at night make this type of fishing an attractive option during the summer.
