Fort Lauderdale fishing charters

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather has been very nice here but a bit on the warm side again for our Fort Lauderdale fishing charters as it got up to 89 yesterday here (one degree off the record). A nice breeze from the south once again thankfully took the edge off the heat. Some rain in the afternoon and a bit more forecast for this afternoon, and then cooler (!) and sunny through the weekend. If you are from up say Toronto way where it was 48 @ tipoff for the Miami Heat playoff game there that 89 probably sounds wonderful. Most locals here in Ft. Lauderdale like it a bit cooler than pushing 90. Low to mid 80s for a high forecast for the next 4 days. We're in.

We continue to see Mahi-Mahi on most of our charters. They are moving fast through the area and are of course much easier to locate if a Frigate (Man O War) bird has spotted them first and shows their location. Fast moving schools of Mahi this time of year can be hard to stay close to if there isn't that eye in the sky to give away their movements. Flipping a live bait to them on spin will get some bites as long as a Sailfish doesn't pop up and eat it as happened to us on a charter. Nice to be lucky. But Sailfish remain widelyscattered despite good conditions for them.

Some Blackfin Tuna off the edge in water up to 400 feet which is less than two miles off the beach. Skipjack Tunas there as well. Some very small fry bait has their attention there and trolled small bright jigs have worked well for us. Deep to the rear of the bait spread works well.

Amberjacks continue to be in full force as their season continues, mostly on the deep wrecks. Some nice snappers as well to go along with their smaller Vermillion cousins. Some large sharks with a couple of big Bulls occupying the wrecks that are holding those Amberjacks.
