Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

With variable winds out of the east southeast here in Fort Lauderdale FL, blue skies and temperatures in the mid 80's and forecast for the next upcoming weeks to be the same, calls for perfect fishing conditions in Fort Lauderdale FL. Ray Holden, Mark Wise and their girlfriends from New Jersey planned on a combination Disney World and fishing charter vacation on the Happy Day Today, Topshot Fishing Charters in Fort Lauderdale FL.
We headed out to the sea buoy which sits 1.8 miles from the shore, sitting at 120 ft. of water on the edge of the drop off. Large schools of Bonitos and Black Fin Tunas are migrating down our east coast, passing Fort Lauderdale FL, so targeting these fish was the best plan of action.
We started off with our two plainers, one with a blue reflector, #3 drome spoon and the other a blue and white sea witch in front of a Bonito strip, and a yellow jap feather and four Ballyhoos to round-off our surface baits. We trolled the reefs and caught numerous Bonitos in the 5-15 lb. class and Black Fin Tunas in the 5-8 lb. class. After the girls were tiring from hooking up with the Bonitos and Black Fin Tunas and with little time left, I decided to change the fishing program and move out to 350 ft. of water in search of Wahoos. As August is approaching, Wahoos are migrating pass Fort Lauderdale. I instructed Mitch our mate to change to a #3 1/2 drome spoon on the plainer rod. As I circled one of our local wrecks here in Fort Lauderdale FL, our plainer rod gets a strike. With the rod tip bouncing up and down, and the speed of the line exiting the reel, it is a good indication that the fished hooked is a Wahoo, and sure enough it was. After ten minutes of battling the fish, the blue and silver neon stripe Wahoo is brought to the side of the boat. Mitch put the 12 lb Wahoo in the boat being careful of the razzor sharp teeth of this first class fish predator.
It was time to start heading back from our deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL to the dock at Bahia Mar. On the way in, Mitch filet and prepared sushi from the Black Fin Tuna caught and served it to our anglers. This ends another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing charter on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
