Today was a sporty fishing day – with seas running 5-8 ft. with an occasional 10 ft. and winds east northeast at 15-22 mph. With the three well seasoned anglers, we left the dock and twenty minutes later we were at the drop off at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL, which sits in 120 ft. of water. On our way out, we discussed the type of fishing the anglers wanted to do and the consensus was Mahi Mahi, since the day before they were very plentiful. I set out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. As the gradual swells were rising from 5-8 ft., a Sailfish appeared on the right short. The Sailfish chased the live bait around and at the same time another Sailfish started chasing the left short live bait – a DOUBLE HEADER!!!! As the fire drill started, one Sailfish jumping over the other Sailfish's line and entangling both lines, mate Jackson went over and under twice to untangle the lines. The acrobat continued with one fish then the other jumping out of the water – a great picture taking scene. Bill brought the first Sailfish to the boat, then his brother, Tom, brought in the other Sailfish. Pictures were taken and both Sailfish were released to fight again. From there, we wound up catching a10 lb Mahi Mahi. The anglers remarked that they were glad they caught the Sailfish since it was a more exciting and challenging fight.
