Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

June report for Ft Lauderdale Offshore fishing
With the arrival of June we are full swing into our summer approach to offshore fishing here in Ft. Lauderdale. Early morning and late afternoon fishermen will enjoy the best chances for success. The Dolphin schools are now almost exclusively at the Swordfish areas or beyond. Occasional fish will be caught inshore of these areas but they will be the exception rather than the norm. Many fish will be on the move but floating objects will hold bait and of course the presence of these baitfish are a given for the likelihood of finding Dolphin and Wahoo. The presence of small Tuna in the area of these floaters is a good sign and often signals the probable presence of larger predators (Dolphin, Wahoo, etc.) in the immediate vicinity. Be persistent and vary your approach and favorite presentations if you don't immediately hook up. Expect to see an occasional stray Cobia on debris and weed lines. Live bait is best, but possibly a small sinking dead squid will be the ticket for these.
Sailfish will be offshore on rips and edges but will also be hooked "in the middle of nowhere" by blind trolllers. The same goes for Blue Marlin and most of these will be in the vicinity of 100#, but bigger tackle testing fish will be seen.
Closer to shore the Kingfish will bite well on most days. Blackfin Tuna will be caught along with some Bonito. Expect some Sailfish to be caught on and just outside the reef if there is current, regardless of water color. Expect to be able to catch Sharks in the same area, and most all of these will be hooked on baits fished close to or on the bottom.
Swordfishing should be good with some really nice sized fish taken on day drops.
Good fishing is offshore right now, and we'll see you out there.
