Fort Lauderdale fishing for Mahi-Mahi

Fort Lauderdale fishing trends are rapidly entering the warm weather mode and our most welcome visitors are the schools of Mahi-Mahi beginning to show with some regularity offshore. Many of the schools of these Mahi-Mahi contain more fish than in recently past weeks and it really pays to be ready with a few spinning rods when the opportunity at a school of fish presents itself. We had the Spanglers aboard today for a three quarter day trip. They are repeat customers and Ed is always a pleasure.
Beautiful conditions here today were perfect for Mahi fishing. Clean blue water and a moderate north current as we headed offshore. Not too much activity inside of 400 feet, but that changed from 500 to 700 feet of water. Weed rows inside of 400 held no bait and essentially no fish. Beginning in 50 feet there weren't really any more weeds than inside but a slight increase in current had the fish around the weeds in that 500 to 700 foot area.
Fair numbers of schoolies in loose schools today and the nice 30 pounder was a loner in 675 feet. Tough fishing conditions with the weeds very scattered, keeping 1st mate Brian very busy and then busy again tending the lines to be free and clear of the weeds, and that is what sets a good mate apart from the rest The keeper sized schoolies and that nice fat Cow pictured are good motivation to keep after your baits.
