Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
When you are able to fish year-round, you find yourself looking to certain times of the year for different things to catch. This time of year, Fort Lauderdale Springtime Fishing, is one of those times.
As a charter boat captain, we always have a plan but now? Forget the plan and take what comes. And pretty much, everything we do catch here can be caught in the next few months.
Fishing has already improved over the last few weeks. Edible fish including King, Tuna, Wahoo and Mahi-mahi have all been boated and brought back to the dock. With the waters warming and the migration north, more and more fish will be passing by our coast heading for cooler waters. The fish we have been catching have been good size and providing action for our guests.
While edible fish have been abundant, so have our sport fish. The wrecks and reefs have been producing Amberjack, Barracuda with live bait. Grouper season is now open and that is always a welcome sight.
Sailfish have also been present with some regularity and we expect that to increase. What truly makes it exciting is no matter what depth of water you are fishing in, there is always a good chance of hooking one of these prized catches.
Many come with expectations of one kind of a fish or another. This time of year, it is best to just take what comes. You may get your wish and more. Your captain and mate can direct you best, they do it every day and have their fingers on the pulse of what has been happening. And be assured, no one wants to catch fish more than they do. It makes the job so much easier.
So, sit back, relax, enjoy a cool beverage and hope to be surprised. That's the one thing you will find fishing Fort Lauderdale in the Springtime. You just never know what will bite next. I just know it will be along soon…
