Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Our first cold front has changed the fishing in Fort Lauderdale. Some of these changes have been good ones, others have not.
The biggest change has been the recent increase in Sailfish activity in the deep sea. While not "pouring though" as of yet, more than likely a few shots both trolling and on live bait are had even on the shorter trips. These fish are always welcome and so much fun to try and catch. And… It IS a challenge!
Another good change has been an increase in the Mahi (Dolphin) fishing. With all the baitfish in our area, Dolphin have been making frequent trips to the reef area for food and we have been reaping the reward as shown in this picture.

Ted and Jane wanted Wahoo, which we caught 2 of, but we also landed this nice Bull Dolphin held here by Jane. The Bull (male) can be indentified by the straight edge leading the head. The females have a much more gradual slope.
What has lessened lately since our front has passed through is one of our go to fish, the Kingfish. While not a highly sought sport fish, it is something we can usually catch easily to pass the time as we wait for other species to come along. The Kings have been few and far between. This will change soon and we'll be wishing they were slow again. They eat our much needed live baits as we wait for that Sail or Mahi.
Fort Lauderdale fishing… Always changing, especially this time of year.
