Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Peter Atkinson, Ken Valley and Jim Felix from Canada here on vacation enjoying our golf courses decided to do some big game deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL with the Topshotfishing team. Winds were out of the northeast at 17 mph, seas running 4-6 ft., blue skies, and temperature in the mid 70's.

We stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait which we planned on using later for Sailfishing. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. From there we started trolling and caught a total of 15 Tunas and three Kingfish.

I noticed a rip forming in 185 ft. of water – an inviting place to fly the kite. We put out two kites, with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. Our first bite was a Sailfish that got wrapped up on the leader and threw the hook. We reset the kite and a dorsal fin belonging to a Shark grabbed the bait from the right short kite. Ken was our angler and he brought in a 6 ft. Reef Shark, which was released. We reset again on the same rip and the black shadow appeared on the left short. With dorsal fin and bill out of the water, the Sailfish frantically chased the live Goggle Eye. Again, the Sailfish got wrapped up on the leader and threw the hook. After resetting, another Sailfish got hooked up. Immediately he came out of the water and put on a spectacular show, tail-walking on the water. Jim was our angler and he brought the Sailfish to the boat for picture taking and release. We repeated resetting and this time Peter was our angler, and he brought in another Sailfish; pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released.

After a successful day of fighting Sailfish, the anglers retired in the a/c salon for the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
