Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

With calm seas and clear skies, Fishing in Fort Lauderdale was a breeze. With Shark being the target of the afternoon's trip, Mike and Heather were more than happy on the morning run to help us provide some bait for that trip. Catching anything was just fine and the Kingfish bit fairly well. We caught 8 total, letting 2 go because of their size. Food from the group at lunch and bait for our afternoon trip.
The fair skies gave way to some clouds and some serious wind as the day wore on. Bill, a fire fighter from Chicago and his wife Karen had their sights set on catching a shark. Of course, not all things go as planned and the kite hadn't been up 5 minutes before a Sailfish showed up. He didn't eat, just "window shopping" and soon, with the winds increasing even more and switching directions, we had to bring the kite in and concentrate on presentation of the shark baits.
It wasn't too long before we had our first bite. A 50 lb. Blacktip, fairly large for this species around here, was hooked. With Bill in the seat, only a 10 minute battle ensued and the fish was beside the boat ready for release.

The baits were reset and we again waited for a bite.
A second bite came shortly after, a small Silky Shark. Quite outmatched by our tackle, again the fish was brought to the boat easily. And our trip was over.
But Bill will be back in May when we will again try for something just a bit larger.
Fort Lauderdale fishing in May offers many shark bites.
