Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

December proves to be one of our best months for sailfish and mahi mahi. A fish so nice they named it twice! THe mild weather means fish bite in the morning and afternoon trips, so if youre down here on vacation you dont have to get up at the crack of dawn just to catch fish. In fact I sometimes prefer the afternoon over the morning for the sailfish bite. December is already producing some great catches on wahoo as well, up to 60#'s. Theyre have been some big "smoker" kings as well as some hammerhead sharks. The best part about Fishing Fort Lauderdale is youre catching all of these fish within 3 miles of the beach. Our "Deep Sea Fishing" starts at only 1 mile from shore and generally a half day of fishing is plenty to fill the cooler. Our preferred method of fishing right now is still kite fishing. Its exciting, it produces and its tough for even the first time angler to miss seeing the bite, when a seven foot sailfish decides to eat. Once that sailfish is on you'll jump in the fighting chair for the big show, as the sailfish burns off line and shreds the oceans surface to try and give you the slip, just keep cranking, keep the line tight and get em to the boat for a quick photo before release. When the sailfish are really pouring through catching up to 4 or 5 is not uncommon during a half day trip.
