Fort Lauderdale Shark Fishing

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

February 27, 2015

Captain Darin and mate Steve were busy today with back-to-back fishing charters off Ft. Lauderdale. Their anglers had great fun catching a giant greater hammerhead shark and some bonitos during the 8 12 pm morning trip. The shark action continued during the 1 5 pm afternoon trip as their second group of anglers caught a scalloped hammerhead shark. Some blackfin tunas and a nice mahi-mahi were also caught in the afternoon.

The last day of the month turned out to be an awesome fishing day as guest Jay chartered the Lady Pamela II for his daughter Katie's 15th birthday. We started the eight hour deep-sea fishing trip with some kite fishing for sailfish but it started raining so we reeled them in and moved on to trolling. The rain never stopped but we caught three blackfin tunas, three bonitos, two mahi-mahi, and a kingfish on the troll.

There was plenty of fishing time left after several hours of trolling, so we moved the Lady Pamela II offshore for some shark fishing. We sat out there for four hours before we got the one big bite to put the icing on Katie's birthday cake. That one hookup turned out to be a monster thresher shark in the 600 650 lb range. These threshers have massive tail fins that can be as long as the total body length. They use the long tail to stun prey, or to put up a great fight like this fish did when hooked. Nice catch gang!
