Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Sport Fishing

Capt. Vinnie Sacks

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week fishing in Fort Lauderdale, we have had quite a variety of different species biting from top to bottom. We are gonna start the report this week with bottom fishing. As of late right here in Fort Lauderdale we have had some very very good action on the bottom with snappers and larger game fish like amberjack. Fishing sunken ships wrecks and smaller bottom sports right off the coast has been a productive way to put fish in the cooler specially for dinner, vermillion snapper has been the most common of the snapper species we have been encountering, for snapper fishing small pieces of cut bait with multiple hook rigs called a chicken rig, when bottom fishing in deeper water its a smart idea to fish a few hooks with bait so you can maximize your chances to catch some fish. As far as larger fish that you may encounter while bottom fishing live baits are best, anything from trophy amberjack to larger grouper are possible but keep in mind grouper is out of season right now till the month of May so they must be released after catching. Still very fun to catch and they fight hard. Other options in Fort Lauderdale that have been consistent would be trolling, right now we have been having a fantastic blackfin tuna bite, trolling always seems to be the best option for tuna because they are always on the move, putting out smaller lures like feathers or squid imitations is always a good choice. Late afternoons have had the best bite as far as action, and the key depths for the tuna have been from 180 feet on out to 250 feet which is less then 2 miles offshore in Fort Lauderdale. While trolling the deeper edge of the reef there has been a few mahi mahi in the mix. Sailfish this week have been hit and miss some days better then others but there has been some around. Some thing to look forward to coming up very soon is shark fishing, in about another month the great shark migration will take place right here in Fort Lauderdale and shark fishing is one of my favorite things to target for many reason and 1 of the main ones being the fight, fighting a big game shark on a deep sea fishing charter specially one of larger size is something that will test you mentally and physically, so be on the look out for pictures and reports regarding shark fishing coming up in the near future. Please be sure this week to check out some of the great pictures we have this week of some great catches caught aboard YB Normal while out deep sea fishing, and remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. If your coming down to the Fort Lauderdale area and looking to do some deep sea fishing check us out we would love to show you a good time on the water. Capt. Vinnie 954 559 4700
