Ft Lauderdale Charter Fishing Sailfish

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
Sailfish have not been prevalent while charter fishing in Ft. Lauderdale this year. They have not made their big push through our area because of the mild winter, the mildest in over 100 years. While only a few really good Sailfish days have been had, we've still been catching them as we do year round here in Ft. Lauderdale. And Zack and Kim were beneficiaries of this.
We began our day trolling and after a while found a little "sweet spot" where we missed a nice Wahoo at the boat. Re-rigged and set back up, another pass across the area yielded a nice sized Wahoo and this made it into the boat. Sweet… We've been catching a lot of these lately.
No reason not to try again and as we began to the area once more, the deep line sounded out once again. Wahoo do not usually jump after being hooked, but sailfish do. Zach had his fish on and he was jumping.
There is a problem when trying to catch Sailfish on the deep lines. The planer is attached to the rod and then a leader or shock cord as we call it, is attached to the planer. This shock cord absorbs some of the impact when a fish strikes and has to be brought in by hand. Most fish allow you to pull on them fairly easily, it takes a touch which Chris does well, but Sailfish don't like being pulled on this way. 100' of this has to be hand lined in and luckily, the fish cooperated all the way to the boat where he was billed, measured, photographed and released in good fashion and form.
We rounded out our trip with an off shore grand slam by catching a Wahoo, Tuna and Mahi-mahi but the highlight will always be that sailfish caught charter fishing in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Target Species:
Sailfish, Shark, Tune, Dolphin, Wahoo, Marlin, Swordfish and more
