Ft. Lauderdale Fishing/ Fishing Clubs

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

A recent 2 day charter had Jason with the Fin-Atics, a fishing club from Baltimore, MD, for some Ft. Lauderdale fishing. As with all 2 day charters, we try and break things up to give different types of fishing as well as a variety of species so the first day we spent mostly trolling for the better part of the morning making our way south to a deep wreck that has been very active.
Bonito (Little Tuny) were the fish of the day with a few Kingfish mixed in on the reef. Always hopeful for a Wahoo or Dolphin as we do this, it seemed the Bonito had eaten everything in the ocean this day. But they guys had fun catching them as they do pull hard and as our morning went on, we became concerned on space in our fish box.
Time for a change of pace. Some live bait we had caught at the sea buoy was used on a deep wreck and the Amberjack were "snappin". Each drop took just moments and I think we caught 4 of these monsters before beginning stage three of our day which was pulling live bait from the riggers. The middle of the day usually sees a slower bite and live bait helps things along. We snapped a picture of one of the Jacks attached here.

Today was slow though and the large Kings we had been catching weren't cooperating at all with us.
The Goggle Eyes we had bought that morning stayed in the well for use the next day when the wind was to blow some. Unfortunately almost all died over night. We purchased more on the way out the second day and headed for what we hoped was a change in venue.
Trolling is usually what we do first this time of year to find an area we want to fish. And once again Bonitos were hungry and coming in fast. A change to kite fishing did bring some different action. Captain Tom told me they raised 4 Sailfish but none stayed connected. A Dolphin was also missed as they will do from time to time.
I can't say much about fishing clubs and their members but I can say this group of guys showed their interest as well as their prowess. They handled the rods extremely well and took our instruction perfectly. The simple act of catching bait, it does take a touch and some talent, they excelled in this.
It was our pleasure to have this fishing club aboard. The Fin-Atics were great! I just wish we could have provided them with a little more variety that Ft. Lauderdale fishing has to offer.
